Immigrants who receive benefits can be denied Green Cards
The Trump administration is proposing to crack down on millions of low income families who may have to choose between receiving government assistance and being granted legal permanent residence in the U.S.
The proposal, spear headed by White House aide, Stephen Miller, targets the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (welfare), Medicaid, Medicare Part D (prescription drug subsidies) and Section 8 (housing vouchers). Implementing this measure at this time is clearly intended to improve congressional Republicans’ chances in the midterm elections.

Those affected are legal immigrants and their families, many of whom are in the process of obtaining their green cards. Undocumented immigrants are not eligible for most federal benefits.
