Diversity Visa Lottery Program for 2017

The Diversity Visa Lottery program administered by the Department of State for 2017, started on October 1 and will conclude on November 3. This program provides up to 55,000 visas each fiscal year for permanent residence in the U.S., to individuals who have been selected and comply with all the requirements.

All entries must be done electronically through the Department of State’s Diversity Visa Lottery website. Paper entries will not be accepted. Once registered, the system will provide a confirmation number to check the status online. The results will be published on May 5, 2016 and those selected will receive further instructions and notices.

Citizens from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru and the Dominican Republic are not eligible for the Diversity Visa Lottery program of 2017. The reason for this restriction is that this opportunity is offered for countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.

Results for the 2016 DV program may be found on the Department of State Diversity Lottery site.
